Thirty One Days of Blogging - Day Seven

Today is about traveling. Early days most traveling involved bowling tournaments, going to see friends and plain mischief. I am still not sure how I lived beyond age 25! The two New Year’s Eves I spent in Las Vegas will never be topped. Fast forward a few years, and I meet Terry Alter. He worked at the Hyatt Hotels Reservation Center and just celebrated 32 years with Hyatt. A few months after we met, we went to Disney World. We stayed at two Hyatt Hotels; one was basic but was right by Disney World. Perfect hotel to stay at when you spend all day and evening at Disney World. We moved on to stay at Hyatt Grand Cypress Resort, which is a posh place. It was a fantastic hotel, but I was beginning to feel tired. The day before we left, I was feeling worse by the minute. I was famous for getting tonsillitis, and that is what I felt like. I never left the room our last day as I kept feeling worse.

Our flight was in the evening, and we wait at the airport for a bit when we find out our flight was canceled. There were no other planes that evening. The airline put us at the local motel dump. By now, I couldn’t talk and still feeling worse. We got a flight out first thing in the morning, but we would have a six-hour wait in Chicago. I parked in a chair and could not move. Terry kept trying to get me to eat, drink, etc. We get on the flight to Omaha in the late afternoon. When we board that plane, they announce the air conditioning is out. Can I feel any worse? That flight was smooth but like a furnace. When we got back, Terry had to go to work, so he dropped me off quickly.

The next morning, I somehow got up and went to the office. My team made me promise to go to the doctor, and I knew I needed to clean some things up. Let’s say I didn’t return to work for a few weeks. My doctor looked at me and said, your strep test will be negative, and your mono test will be positive. At the age of 31, I had a teenage kissing disease. All I had to do is sleep for four weeks until I felt better. That was easy because I could hardly move. I got my days and nights reversed quickly. My throat cleared up within a few days, but I felt somewhat human after about two weeks. They watch your liver functions closely because complications happen with mono. I recovered without any issues and started to sleep at night again. Terry never got sick because he was the carrier! Next time I will cover at a high level some of our other trips and get back to something else. Until next time, keep your glasses at least half full.
