Cybersecurity
I have always said if I was a young BA starting that I would focus on Cybersecurity. Well, since I got hacked one week ago, I have been living in Cybersecurity 24/7. I thought I was careful, but it can happen to anyone. It will take over your life to get it resolved. I have found out that my credit union has protection better than Lifelock for less than half the price. I signed up the minute I walked into the building the other day.
I already have an online app that produces safe automated passwords. When something like this happens, you get to go through and change all the passwords. I really am starting to laugh at this because it sounds like a circus. You access the website of a company. Then you are sent a code because I have 2-Step authentication. You answer that and change your password. I save it in my online app, which is easy because this app prompts me. Then I change the payment method because many things are closed. That results in another code on my cell phone. I also have been doing some clean-up activity as I noticed my old work number on a few sites.
Each action also results in an email. On any of my sites that got compromised, it results in a fraud representative's phone call. Now you repeat this numerous times, rinse, and repeat! I also took the opportunity to remove any accounts from my online app that I don’t need. I am thankful that I did have a few apps that are not financial. My one credit card company is aggressive with possible fraud. They called one time about a $1.00 charge. That irritated me at the time but not today.
This has occupied a good amount of my time, but I am making changes that should mitigate this ever happening again. I have also got to fill out quite a few forms to get automatic withdrawals changed since my account number changed. One of them would not accept a PDF, so I had to send a fax. I had to drive to the FedEx store to do this. How many faxes have you sent since the 1980s and 1990s?
I have managed to relate a business analysis topic to a true-life story. I am thinking maybe our ancestors may have had the right idea at keeping money in the mattresses. LOL! Please stay safe out there and if the hackers invade your life, reach out to me for tips and tricks. I won’t even charge you as I would have to do a bank transaction, and I have done enough of those this week. I hope I have given you a chuckle or a smile with this story. I will focus on Business Analysis topics next week. Let’s all have an amazing day and an even better weekend. Until next time, please keep your glass as least half full.
