Thirty One Days of Blogging - Day 12

One of my loves in my life is most sports. I don't care for hockey, boxing, and most volleyball, except I love Nebraska Women's Volleyball. I am a passionate Nebraska Cornhusker Football Fan, and when I attended Nebraska, I was on the Cornhusker Bowling Team. That was many years before it became an NCAA sport. Unfortunately, when I attend Nebraska Football games in person, I am "Judy the Jinx." I have witnessed more losses in all kinds of weather.

Growing up in Nebraska, being a Husker fan is something that is issued at birth. When I was growing up, there were rules about how many times any school could be on TV. Most of my memories are listening to the Husker games on the radio with the legendary Lyle Bremser at the microphone. The 1971 Nebraska- Oklahoma game on Thanksgiving Day 11-25-71 was one of the best games I ever watched. There are YouTube videos all over the internet to see for yourself. Nebraska beat Oklahoma 35-31 and went on to be National Champions for a second straight year.

Let me tie team sports back to business analysis. Athletes are trained with a "team-first" attitude. This involves personal sacrifice for the good of the team. They collaborate to help the team. Today's business environment is team-oriented and must include collaboration. BAs have to sacrifice a coveted project for the good of the team, and it is not all about them. In any leadership talk that I have ever given, I talk about this and stress the team members need to check their egos at the door. My beloved Cornhuskers are on TV in a little over one hour, so I need a power nap. Tomorrow's blog will be about abstracts, dolphins, and a team mindset. Until then, keep your glass at least half full. Cheers!
