The Quote That Means the Most to Me

If you are lucky, you run across a unique person who is like a sister, daughter, mentor, mother, leader, and person who can drive you crazy. The person is someone that I respect more than many other people. Many of you have guessed that person is Danelkis Serra. She is someone who always tells me what I need to hear and not what I want to hear. She has been one of my biggest supporters as I navigate the world of a solopreneur.

One day she said something to me that stuck out as a quotation. “I want the world to see you as I do!” Danelkis Serra. I don’t think she realized how powerful her words were. At first glance, we seem like total opposites starting with the 18-year age gap. As the last four years have gone by, we have discovered many more similarities than differences.

We met in person for the first time at the 2018 IIBA Heartland PDD. After I had dropped a friend off at her hotel, I was driving to Danelkis' hotel; I heard these words from the back seat “This is what you need to do.” She continued to remind me about deflecting comments. I was known for thanking people but then explaining how it is a team effort.

Since that day, I don’t think there is a subject we have not discussed. I guess I have gotten better about not deflecting comments. I put Thinking Judymoji on this blog because she came up with the idea. Her suggestions have made me a better person, leader, and BA. Until next time, please keep your glass at least half-full.
